Last week, Footmarks COO Todd Paris took one for the team, and headed to Deer Valley, Utah, to present “How Geolocation is Changing Retail,” at Digiday’s annual Summit. If you’re going to talk about emerging technologies in retail for 72 hours, Deer Valley, is the place to do it. For the first day of the event, social media was alive with enviable views from the conference’s mountain top perch. Fortunately, the Summit’s speakers and guests were able to pull themselves away from bowling and trail runs long enough to put on a great event.         Digiday summarized the Summit’s key takeaways, and it’s not surprising beacons featured front and center. As they write, “almost every presentation touched on this technology,” and indeed, all eyes were on R/GA Director David Womak, and Footmarks COO Todd, as they gave the audience a live demonstration of the rich analytics afforded...

Last week, TechCrunch – via inMarket’s Mark DiPaola – suggested 5 important questions retailers should pose to beacon providers “before [they] beacon.” Because, as he writes, “there have been plenty of exciting announcements touting beacons in 2014, and enormous interest in the field,” we thought we’d use this opportunity at Footmarks to allay any “confusion about how to use these devices at scale.” So – here’s those 5 questions for beacon providers, answered by Footmarks – an end-to-end platform, boasting secure and reliable patent-pending hardware and an innovative and intuitive experience platform. 1. Which apps do these beacons work with, and how many people use those apps? Footmarks’ SDK gets built into our clients’ existing apps to bring location intelligence to the client-end user relationship and enhance the app’s utility for both client and end user. As DiPaola correctly points out, the larger the app network in place, the greater...

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a demo must be priceless. …Or at least that was the takeaway from last week’s TechDay, when we exhibited our beacon technology at the all-day tech event.   Explaining Footmarks isn’t easy. For starters there’s the beacon. While we work with the technology –  and with people who work with the technology – every day, beacons have yet to become mainstream. And even seasoned technologists, like those who stopped by our booth on Thursday, had multiple questions about beacons – from the devices themselves, to the iBeacon protocol, to how beacons differ from their proximity-sensing forbearers, like GPS and NFC. Then there were questions about the technology’s application. How could beacons be used in the retail environment? And how could location tracking, push notifications, and analytics – with obvious benefits for the retailer – be desirable, or even relevant, to the...
